There was an article published on Wednesday September 30,2009 called “Immigrant Crackdown Leads to 1,800 Pink Slips”. The article tells us that 1,800 undocumented workers are being given a pink slip. Must we says these workers were hired by American Apparel a well known American brand.
Some may read this article and say one more article on illegal aliens,deport them all and others might pity them.I believe this is an article on an act that is being done for the wrong reasons. Just a couple of months ago there were raids taking place all over Los Angeles county.The peoples reactions towards these raids were not good and were seen trough out the nation thanks to the press coverage of protest such as May Day where one of the emphasizes were to stop the raids.
The reactions these raids caused were not what was expected and now instead of having ICE go inside a factory and caych as many undocumented employees as possible, the company is being forced to to fire their emplyees. This is a way of hiding the truth or sugar cotting it to have less media cover the topic and as a result less people will know about it.There is a reason why this article made the cover of the NY Times and not made a big buzz in La Opinion a spanish newspaper.
I know there are several ways to see this and several people who agree and disagree with the article.But in this though economy is it really smart to make a company fire 1,800 employees some having more than 10yrs with that company.You may agree with this or not.Honestly if there wasn’t a job demand for undocumented people there would be less people coming to this country.Why make them pay by making them loose their Job, the ones who should pay are the company’s who are highering them. Is this a problem yes it is.But i believe there are better ways to deal with this situation.
